When building or remodeling a home or outdoor space, one of the most unique features to incorporate is a wood fired oven. For any kind of gathering, these ovens can add a special touch that makes your family, friends, and guests’ experience truly memorable. Whether it be homemade pizzas, smoked meats, fish, roasted vegetables, and fresh-baked bread; a wood-fired oven provides not only delicious meals but also warmth and entertainment to all of your gatherings.
It all started in Texas when owner and founder, Bobby Ryan, experienced his first wood-fired meal as a teenager working in a BBQ pit. At the same time, he began learning woodworking and construction. After becoming interested in wood fired ovens in 2015, Bobby soon started building ovens for family and friends. Eventually, word got out, and requests came in to make ovens on large private Texas ranches.
Today, Bobby has brought his custom oven building business to North Idaho. Currently located in Coeur d'Alene, ID, Western Ovens serves residences in North Idaho, seasonally in Texas, and eventually Western Montana.
Bobby Ryan grew up in El Paso, Texas. He has always been an eager, hands-on learner, who enjoys building, restoring, remodeling, and cooking. Having a love for restoration, construction, and food is what led to his passion for creating beautiful, custom-made wood-fired ovens.
After moving to New York City in 2000, Bobby started his independent remodeling and construction career when he moved into a Manhattan building in Chinatown. He and his friends renovated a floor of the 1897 building into two apartments rebuilding the plumbing and electrical service from scratch. He later would renovate historic buildings in Austin, Texas that dated back to the 1910s.
Throughout his 20’s, Bobby traveled across Europe, admiring the stone, brick, and timber architecture. The beauty and artistry of the various regions in Europe have left a mark on him. The different building styles he saw and studied while traveling has inspired Western Ovens purpose and designs today. During a more recent trip to Latvia and Norway, Bobby was able to attend classes on traditional Norwegian and German timber work that he hopes to incorporate into ovens here in the Northwest.
After his time in Texas, Bobby decided it was time to move to the great Northwest. The landscapes of Idaho and Montana were particularly inspiring to him. He packed up and relocated his business to Coeur d'Alene. With a quickly growing population, Bobby hopes to provide his services to many people in the area whether they are building a new home, remodeling, or just love great food.
